Well, today is the day after I purchased my 94 Yamaha SuperJet and the plans for today will make it a long and exciting one. Get up early head to dmv, and then to the lake to learn to ride the superjet.
Since the superjet doesn’t have current tags on it I felt the need to register it as soon as possible with DMV and get the new tags for it so that I was 100% legal. As it turns out the registration was 100% up to date but the new stickers were never put on! So, I was lucky and got out of DMV in under 45 minutes, and for under $60 for registration, tax and the tags!! Wahoo! No late fees or back registration costs.
Next on my list is to take the superjet out to Folsom Lake. My brother is going and we are taking the 3 Seater Sea Doo just in case something goes wrong and we have to tow the jetski back to the shore. We were lucky and the superjet started right up the first time and ran awesome all day long!!!
This was my first time on the new yamaha superjet and also my FIRST time on a standup jetski! Let me tell you it’s a totally different feeling than riding anything else! I felt at one with the ski and the water, and really felt like I made progress my first day.
At first it was tough to even ride on my knees but after a short bit I was standing up and going straight… note the going STRAIGHT. Turning was still new to me, and my face and nose kept meeting the water on each turn. I was learning how to turn better and better on my knees but standing up still felt super squirrely!!!
If you are on the edge about riding a standup jetski I highly suggest it! It’s very exciting and I can tell I’ll be learning a new trick or technique each time I go out, not to mention it’s a great workout to keep you in health and in shape.
Things I learned and that you should expect if you are going riding on a standup jetski for your first time, wether it be a Kawasaki or Yamaha remember:
- You will fall a lot, it’s normal do not worry.
- You will be sore when you are done.
- You will be tired and ready to sleep (if you ride a lot the first time out.)
- Your core muscles will ache. (New feeling for most people.)
- You will get water up your nose.
- You can/most likely will scrape or bang your shins .
- It will feel like nothing you have ever ridden before.
- Turning feels funny standing up.
- You will cavitate more than you think you should
- You will have a lot of fun!
