What silicone to use for intake grate?

Superjet Tech Add comments

I recently purchased a new intake grate for my superjet and installed it.  But, before I was able to install it I had to figure out what silicone to use to seal up the bolt holes and around the intake grate.

The silicone for this must be waterproof and I suggest using something that’s approved for going under the waterline since this silicon will actually be in the water the entire time your superjet is.

Go to your local hardware store or automotive store and they should have a TON of silicone to choose from.

I suggest clear since you will be putting it around the edges of your intake grate as well as in the bolt holes.

Do not use something like 3M 5200 which is a permanent silicone as it will remove paint, gell coat, fiberglass, etc if you try to pull it off.

3m 4200 is a better choice but is still a VERY STRONG adhesive.

NAPA Auto parts sells generic clear silicone that’s perfect and cheap.

If you want to spend some more money you can also use “thread sealer” + silicone in the bolt holes to insure no water gets through the threads.
