Worx Intake Grate vs. Protec Intake Grate

Superjet Tech Add comments

One of the first modifications people do to their new personal watercraft and in my case my new to me yamaha superjet is replace the intake grate and the rideplate.  This post will outline the differences visually between the WORX intake grate and the protec intake grate, and the OEM Yamaha Superjet intake grate.

In the near future I will be going over rideplates and what differences you can notie by swapping to an aftermarket rideplate for your personal watercraft.

Here is a picture of a Worx 201  maxiloader intake grate and a protec intake grate (with deeper lines than factory).

I don’t have any pictures right now comparing a factory intake grate to the above but observe the difference in the depth between the worx intake grate and the pro tec intake grate.  THen take a look at the massive SCOOP on the worx 201 maxiloader intake grate, that thing is massive!

If your superjet is cavitating in rough water the cause is most likely the intake grate (riding style some too!).  On my stock superjet the intake grate made a HUGE difference, I’m talking night and day! I went from not being able to get power before a wave to being able to jump a couple feet into the air.

The WORX 201 is the most suggested freestyle intake grate out there.  It will cut-down on top speed 1-2mph and for some people it may seem like it’s “Slowing” the ski down when you let off the gas, I have NOT noticed this on either of my superjets.  I went from OEM to the Worx 201 Maxiloader and it was the BEST modification so far.  I then went from the Pro Tec pictures above on my new superjet to the WORX 201 maxiloader and it was an improvement but it was NOT as noticable as going from OEM to WORX 201.

Either way, if you enjoy doing freestyle or even recreational riding the WORX 201 Maxiloader intake grate is the ONLY way to go.

The installation is super easy, and takes about 10-30 minutes depending on the position of your superjet.  You need to remove the four bolts holding the intake grate, dab some silicone in the holes and around the front and rear mounting surface if you wish, and then install your new worx intake grate with the NEW bolts supplied as instructed.

Worx will send instructions, bolts, and an allen wrench for installing your new intake grate.

To help the water flow smoother under the ski I dab silicone over the bolt heads and smooth them out with the bottom of the intake grate… it probably gives me 20 more mph… ha, ha, ok probably not but everything that helps acceleration for freestyle tricks is good, and this is cheap and easy.

Would I do the WORX 201 again? YES! Everytime.

hi i have a question for u does a performance intake grate realy make a pwc faster? please reply thank u

intake grates dont make skis faster, the only provide better “hookup” in choppy water

in fact depending upon the conditions, they may actually slow you down.

nevertheless, I recommend the WOrx 201 or Jetdynamics intakes.
